Z1 Air Leak Tester for Machine Integration

Single-Channel Testing for Machine Integration

The Zaxis Z1 is a compact, single-channel air leak tester designed for machine integration. Its mounting orientation and small footprint let automation builders place dependable leak testing inside production equipment, where a benchtop interface is not the priority and space inside the cell is limited.

Available for combined pressure/vacuum decay or flow applications on one channel, the Z1 is built around the smallest internal volume available on the market. That low internal volume, a 32-bit ADC and fast scan rates support faster, more sensitive tests for parts in automated quality-assurance workflows.

The Z1 measures 2.6” wide, 6.2” high and 8” deep, with 0.00001 PSI test-result resolution. An optional detachable touchscreen interface (TSi), HDMI output, OPC UA, USB, Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP and 24VDC I/O give the tester practical paths for setup, monitoring and connection to an automation cell.

For multi-channel applications, Z1 testers can be cascaded for truly synchronous operation. Zaxis has manufactured USA-made air leak testing equipment for over 25 years, with CE, ISO 9001, REACH and RoHS compliant solutions supporting automation production in medical, automotive, electronics and industrial manufacturing.

Why Choose the Z1 Leak Tester for Your Production Line?

The Z1 is for production teams that need the measurement capability of a Zaxis air leak tester within an automated machine, not a stand-alone operator station. Its compact footprint, single test channel and optional detachable teach pendant keep the test hardware close to the fixture while controls and results stay available to the cell.

Choose the Z1 when the cell is built around one part or one test circuit at a time and the tester should disappear into the machine. If the application needs several independent channels in one enclosure and a built-in screen, compare the Z5; if it needs a larger modular platform for a larger automation cell, compare the Z8. Where several Z1 channels are needed, units can be cascaded for synchronous operation.

Benefits of the Z1 Leak Tester

The Z1 carries the connections, resolution and program capacity needed for automated air leak testing while reserving the user interface for the places it is useful. Its single-channel architecture suits a dedicated fixture, and its communication options help the tester fit into an existing PLC and data workflow.

  • ✓Single-screen test setup with HDMI output.
  • ✓Detachable touchscreen interface.
  • ✓Small footprint saves space inside automated machinery.
  • ✓High sensitivity thanks to low internal volume, 32-bit ADC and fast scan rates.
  • ✓Intuitive touchscreen interface makes test setup quick and easy, with no need for a lengthy training session.
  • ✓Optional pneumatic valves for controlling tooling motions and fixtures.
  • ✓Multiple communication options: OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP and USB.
  • ✓Electronic or manual high-pressure regulators from 2 to 700 psi.
  • ✓Up to 100 unique stored programs and optional onboard storage of test results.
  • ✓Onboard statistics.

How a Z1 Leak Test Runs

A Z1 is configured for the method and limits required by the part, then operated as a single-channel test in the automation cell. The pressure-decay sequence below describes the core cycle; the Z1 is also available for combined pressure/vacuum decay or flow applications.

1

Fill

The fixture connects the part to the Z1 test port and applies the configured test pressure or vacuum.

2

Settle

The part is allowed to stabilise before the measurement interval so the programmed test evaluates the part rather than the transition into the test.

3

Test

The Z1 records the pressure result at the programmed resolution and applies the program’s pass/fail limits for the single test channel.

4

Vent

At cycle completion, the fixture can release the part and the automation cell can use the result through its configured communication or I/O connection.

Pressure decay leak rate depends on pressure change, test volume and time. Use the leak-rate calculator to estimate a test, then work with Zaxis to configure the appropriate method, pressure range and fixture for the part.

Leak Test Types

The Z1 runs pressure decay, vacuum decay, occlusion, mass flow, burst and chamber testing. Select the method according to the part, fixture and production requirement.

Where the Z1 Is Used

The Z1 is positioned for automated production where one part or one dedicated test circuit is handled at a time. Its small enclosure and machine-integration connections fit quality checks that need to happen in the cell rather than at a separate bench.
