Leak Tester
The Zaxis Z5 is a compact, multi-channel air leak tester built for factory automation. With up to 4 independent test channels in a 6.5” × 7” × 9” footprint, it runs pressure decay, vacuum decay, occlusion, mass flow, burst and other leak tests sequentially or concurrently, right at the production line.
A 5” touchscreen with pinch zoom and light and dark modes makes leak test setup fast, with no lengthy operator training. Store up to 100 unique test programs, switch between them through a single test port, and log results with optional onboard statistics.
High sensitivity comes from low internal volume, a 32-bit ADC and fast scan rates, delivering 0.00001 PSI result resolution across pressure ranges from 2 to 1,000 PSIG and 0–14.7 PSI vacuum. Built-in manual or electronic regulators and an optional calibrated leak standard prove every test setup.
Integrate with PLCs and automation cells over OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP, USB and 24 VDC I/O, with up to 4 optional pneumatic valves for fixtures and tooling. Made in the USA by Zaxis, a leak test equipment manufacturer for over 25 years with CE, ISO 9001, REACH and RoHS compliant products, the Z5 serves medical device, automotive and electronics manufacturers worldwide.
Request for QuoteDesigned for both efficiency and precision, the Z5 Leak Tester streamlines your air leak testing process. Whether you’re running multiple programs or performing complex tests, this tester delivers reliable results while saving space and operator time.
Every Z5 ships with the same core: a 32-bit analog-to-digital converter, low internal volume and fast scan rates, which together let the tester resolve pressure changes down to 0.00001 PSI. That resolution is what allows short test times on small parts and dependable pass/fail decisions on larger ones, without adding cycle time to your line.

High accuracy at low measurement levels for consistent quality control.

The Z5 was designed for production leak testing where floor space, changeover time and operator training all cost money. Up to four independent test channels share one 5” touchscreen, so a single compact unit can test four parts at once or step through four different tests on one assembly. Programs, limits and results live on the tester, and the modular platform means a Z5 bought for one product can be re-configured for the next.
A pressure decay test on the Z5 is a four-stage cycle, and every stage is a programmable time and pressure value stored with the part’s program.
The part is connected through a fitting or fixture and pressurised to the test pressure set by the built-in manual or electronic regulator.
The air source is valved off and the part is given time to stabilise, so stretch, flex and temperature effects are not read as leaks.
The transducer watches pressure over the test time. Any drop is a leak; if the decay stays inside the reject limit the part passes and the green light and PASS output fire.
Remaining pressure is released to atmosphere, the result is logged, and the next part — or the next channel — can start.
Decay is converted to a leak rate in SCCM from the pressure drop, the test volume and the test time; use the calculator at the top of this page to size a test, and read the full method on our leak rate calculator page.
Leak test method is dictated by the part, not the tester. Pressure decay suits sealed components with a single access port; vacuum decay is the inverse, for parts that see negative pressure in service or cannot be pressurised; occlusion and back-pressure flow confirm that a passage is open (or blocked) rather than sealed; mass flow measures flow through parts with two open ports; burst and pressure-cracking are destructive tests that find the pressure at which a part fails or a valve opens; and chamber testing wraps a sealed device with no port — electronics, packaging, IP67 enclosures — in a fixture and measures around it. The Z5 can be configured for any of these, and each of its stored programs can use a different method.
The Z5’s combination of high sensitivity and up to four channels makes it a common choice wherever small or medium parts are leak tested at production rates.

All Zaxis air leak testers share the same test methods, resolution and touchscreen interface; they differ in channel count, footprint and options. Choose the Z5 when you need up to four channels in a benchtop or in-cell footprint. The Z8 adds pneumatic capacity and ports for larger automation cells, the Z1 is a single-channel unit for one part at a time, the Z5L is the entry-level single-channel version of the Z5, and the VM3 volumetric tester runs pressure decay without an external air supply.

Zaxis leak testers are on production lines in medical device, automotive, electronics, consumer goods and industrial plants. The Z5 is most often specified where several small parts, or several cavities of one part, must be tested to a tight leak limit at line rate.
The Z5 resolves pressure changes to 0.00001 PSI. The smallest leak rate you can reliably reject depends on the part’s internal volume, the test pressure and the test time, because leak rate in SCCM is calculated from pressure drop, volume and time. Small-volume parts reach very low leak rates in seconds; larger volumes need longer test times. Our engineers will size the test for your part, or you can estimate it with the leak rate calculator on this page.
Yes. The Z5 is fed from plant compressed air or a regulated gas supply through its rear supply port, and the built-in manual or electronic regulator sets the test pressure. If house air is not available at the test station, ask about the Zaxis VM3 volumetric tester, which runs pressure decay tests without an external air supply.
Yes. The Z5 supports up to four test ports, which can run concurrently on four parts or four cavities, or sequentially through different tests on a single assembly. Each channel has its own program parameters and pass/fail result.
Pressure decay, vacuum decay, occlusion, back-pressure flow, mass flow, burst, pressure cracking and chamber testing. Different stored programs can use different methods, so one tester can cover several parts.
Up to 100 unique programs, each with its own pressures, times and limits. Programs are selected on the touchscreen or remotely over Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP or digital I/O, and results can be stored on board with statistics as an option.
Through OPC UA, Ethernet/IP and TCP/IP for program selection, results and data collection, 24 VDC digital I/O for start, pass, fail and busy signals, USB for data export, and up to four optional pneumatic valves for driving fixture clamps and tooling motions. An HDMI output mirrors the screen to a larger monitor.
Test pressure is checked against the transducer, and an optional calibrated leak standard lets you prove the test setup on the line: connect the standard, run the program and confirm the tester reads the known leak. Zaxis leak standards are calibrated and traceable.
The Z5L is the entry-level, single-channel version of the Z5, offered in fixed 0–30 PSI or 0–100 PSI pressure decay or 0 to −14 PSI vacuum decay configurations, with TCP/IP and USB. The Z5 adds up to four channels, pressure ranges from 2 to 1,000 PSIG, electronic regulation, Ethernet/IP, pneumatic valve options and more configuration flexibility.
The Z5 Leak Tester delivers high-precision air leak testing in a compact, user-friendly design. With a 5” touchscreen interface and up to 4 testing channels, it provides fast, reliable results for a variety of industrial applications. Its modular setup allows easy program storage and quick test changes, helping streamline your production process while maintaining quality.
